The distance was 550 miles (about 8 hours) according to Google Maps.
I start the driving about 6AM in order to avoid Atlanta traffic and to give enough time to drive the distance in one day. I also visited my friends last year
for New Years Day and the driving distance and day is LONG. It wears me out! I have to stop a couple of times for gas and restroom. The weather wasn't
bad and I was surprised how much warmer it was at the end of the day than the beginning.
I had planned to stay about a week. I had visited last year and had a wonderful time - my friends and I also had a wonderful time on this trip. My friend had purchased tickets for us to hear the symphony at Clearwater in Ruth Eckhard Hall. We visited the Tampa Bay History Center, the Ringling Circus founder home and museum in Sarasota and the Ringling Circus playing in the Amelie Arena in Tampa. We also toured the Clearwater Beach and nearby pier. We bought some shrimp from a local seafood store and had a meal at the original Hooters.
