From an internet maps website, it is 137 miles and takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes - not counting on slow Atlanta traffic and wrecks. I prefer to NOT drive through mountains, so I drive I-75N to Chattanooga, then go about 25 miles west, then south about 50 miles on a local road.
For several years, I have camped with a group near Stevenson, Alabama. I REALLY enjoy being there - it is a bird sanctuary and has a river nearby which attracks many fishermen.
The dirt road from the paved road over the bridge to the campsite has been MUCH improved with several layers of gravel, and the mud and potholes are now gone.

The bird sanctuary attracted a heron who likes fishing near a culvert for water from a canal when other fishermen are not present.

We asked a ranger if he knew where we could get firewood. He contacted a tree company who delivered some 'end' wood which we enjoyed.

This is a picture of our vehicles in camp. (We typically park near the road and not deep into the green field because, on previous trips, some vehicles have gotten stuck in the mud.

I would retreat to my van when mosquitoes appeared around sundown. Here is a picture of one that I killed before he could eat me.

The first few days of camping was COLD at night and chilly during the day. Then, we had threatened storms and some clouds with a rainbow. Near the end of the trip, the days were warmer and we had beautiful sunshine.

One morning, we ate bacon cooked in an open-fire skillet with eggs. It was delicious and much appreciated.

One Saturday night, we had 'stone soup'. Everybody would bring some soup ingredients, we put them all in a pot and enjoy the results.

I especially enjoyed this barge picture. It was taken at dusk and shows the lights on the barge and the silouettes of the fishermen.

One spring morning, when the water was like glass, I was able to catch a fisherman in a boat near the culvert.

A beautiful day crossing the brige over the river. When leaving, I stopped on the bridge and took a picture because I wanted to remember how beautiful the location had been.
