From an internet maps website, it is 137 miles and takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes - not counting on slow Atlanta traffic and wrecks.
For several years, I have camped with a group near Stevenson, Alabama. I REALLY enjoy being there - it is a bird sanctuary and has a river nearby which attracks many fishermen.
The dirt road has been MUCH improved and with several layers of gravel, the mud and potholes are now gone.

I tell my friends that this area has a green field inside a bird sanctuary. The Tennessee river is the main attraction to this spot.

Not only do we enjoy the field and Tennessee river, but we also enjoy the wonderful sunsets.

Fishermen come to this fishing-spot. We watch and see many of them leave with strings of fish.

This is a picture of our vehicles in camp. (We typically park near the road and not deep into the green field because, on previous trips, some vehicles have gotten stuck in the mud.

I parked my van at the edge of the green field on corner parallel to the river and gravel road.

There is a canal where water is pumped by a large pump from nearby fields. The pumping allows birds to use the fields as food when they migrate.

Many mornings, the wind was calm and the top of the water is very smooth.

On one occasion, the wind was strong and we had whitecaps on the river.

We saw many barges on the river. This picture was taken by another camper and I 'borrowed' it.

My friend picks up trash in the area. She retrieved several buckets and 'packed them out'. We stopped at a trashcan near the boat ramp.

When leaving to return home, we stopped at a boat ramp to drop off the trash into a can which the county uses there.

The gravel road into the camping area has been much improved in the last few years.

We previously had visited a nearby restaurant named Mud Creek Fish Camp. We ordered at the counter and had the take-out food when we returned to camp.

One of our campers built a box camper on the bed of a Toyota truck. He used toolboxes for storage and built them into the structure. On the back is his kitchen which includes a propane stove.
